Well as it happens, I seem to be getting a lot of hits with people trying to research Left 4 Dead: Crash Course. So I thought I’d try and answer some of the questions. My source of intel are various bits and pieces I’ve read all over the internet and heard through the distant chatter of Xbox Live.
1) Initially I was told Crash Course was coming out the beginning of September by the Valve twitter. No such luck. According to multiple sources AND Valve twitter.. it’s the 29th September. Fingers crossed it doesn’t fall through! I don’t know if it’s official.. but word must have come from somewhere!
2) Yes. I do believe there will be achievements coming with it as well. Unfortunately I only know what one of them (possibly) is; attain a gold medal on survival mode. That means last 10 minutes against waves and waves of zombies. Yes.. I’ve had to tackle two Tanks, Hunters, Smokers and millions of common infected all at once in survival mode. I screamed and was thrown into a wall. Bad times. It’s not easy. I don’t think I’ve even made it to silver before. That beast better be worth some hardcore G.
3) And in other zombie-related news.. come October 27th Valve are releasing a Left 4 Dead 2 demo!! I’m really excited about this as it’s going to be demonstrating the new melee system! I may have squealed when I heard about it!!
And there we go. Three small bits of information I hope keep you going for the next week. Mmm.. zombie killing.
It finally happened! I was chosen to be in the Mob on 1 vs 100!
I almost had a heart attack doing so.. but I was in the MOB!! Unfortunately, I panicked and got a question wrong.. the same question the One got wrong and missed out on winning a free arcade game (Zuma) and 400 Microsoft Points! Grr!! Which I wasn’t too pleased about.
I don’t know how I did it to be honest. I wasn’t even aware I had been chosen. It kicked me out of a game I was in with a friend, so I thought it was freaking out what with it being beta and everything. So as I signed back in, it came up and was all “Darth Telle: MOB”. I literally screamed!! There was my avatar jumping around in the Mob!! The questions for once were quite difficult as well! It was just a shame it was when I was in the Mob!!
The fateful question was “Which is a bird?” I can’t remember the other options, but the correct answer was Mao.. which I had an inclination it was. Goodness knows why.. but it was the only one I recognised. Unfortunately I was too unsure and chose another option which was completely wrong. I’m absolutely gutted!! But there’s hope yet! If I’ve managed to get in, there’s huge chance everyone else can!!
I shall be trying again next week.. holding out hope that I can be in once more.. but hopefully with better results!! Fingers crossed!!
Well as you all know, August 11th marked the new 360 Dashboard update. We were promised many new shiny things such as Games on Demand, the avatar marketplace, an improved party system, user ratings.. and a whole bunch of other stuff. I was mildly excited.. I quite enjoy new updates. Unfortunately I haven’t noticed much of a change. A few things here and there have been a nice improvement, but overall it all seems a bit overrated. Maybe I just haven’t explored enough?
My first example being the avatar marketplace. Because I enjoy nothing more than dressing my virtual self up in pretty dresses or nothing but a raincoat, I was looking forward to the possibility of expanding my wardrobe. A lightsaber?! I can’t imagine anything better to complement Darth Telle’s attire! But wait.. 400 Microsoft Points? WHAT?? That’s half an arcade game! That’s £3.40 real money! For a lightsaber?! Well that’s disappointing. I’d rather spend my points on an arcade game. What makes a lightsaber (or Q-Tip (wtf btw)) for my avatar worth that much money? Will I be able to use it in a game? It won’t even show up on my Xbox.com profile page. So as far as I can tell, the new props are completely cool, and totally useless. The clothes and costumes as well, are incredibly cool (Splinter Cell outfit? Yes please!), but are all incredibly overpriced. I am fairly disappointed. Especially seen as no new free avatar clothing will be available.
I love you Valve. Everyone had their doubts.. but I had faith. That’s right, Valve have announced the first REAL DLC for Left 4 Dead (by real I mean hard-cash-paid-for-new-content-REAL)!! I am extremely excited. As much as I can’t wait for Left 4 Dead 2, I am not ready to give up on the original characters just yet. I have bonded after many hours of gameplay with Zoey, Francis, Louis and Bill.
So a little background; the new DLC is called “Crash Course” and is meant to bridge the gap between the campaigns ‘No Mercy’ and ‘Death Toll’. The main purpose is to give players an awesome Versus experience (which is a good game mode.. but not what I play for), and is also playable on Survival and Campaign mode (YAY)! Valve say it’s meant to be a straight up 30 minutes game play and the AI director has been tinkered with. Well it’s available in September and it’s going to cost 560 MSP, or £4.76 in human currency.
The 1 vs 100 Beta was released last night on Xbox Live. I made sure I was there bright and early for it waiting in the lobby. I was really excited and looking forward to it. Unfortunately however, I have never watched the game show or understand the rules (I’m not going to even bother trying to explain them) and so I really didn’t have a clue what was going on. I knew the One was the main contestant and he had to answer questions. But I couldn’t differentiate between the Crowd or the Mob. As it turns out I was in the Mob to begin with, but wasn’t aware that meant I could properly play! So I got a question wrong and I was eliminated. Thus ending up in the crowd. Which to begin with was extremely exciting. My brother and I were shouting at the screen and laughing at all the people getting the questions wrong. Which was very very fun.
But an hour later of the same thing it started to get tedious. Participating in the crowd, I was up against the same three players each round. I would have liked to see some other people there.. make new friends, maybe see my own friends and be able to compete against them! Also, I almost always seemed to be the leader of the round.. I got practically every single instant answer and a really long streak. Now that suggests the questions weren’t all that hard. And they weren’t. Some were stupidly hard, which is really good and makes it more challenging! But some were silly.. for example “Which TV host should you “Watch out for”? (Or something along those lines) A: Jeremy Beetle B: Jeremy Beadle C: Jeremy Beagle.” Two people in the mob did actually get that wrong..
